How Bifen IT Works

What exactly is bifenthrin? Bifen Insecticide, named after its main ingredient bifenthrin, works as a liquid concentrate and targets the nervous system of many insects. This attack on the nervous system causes an immediate weakened state and then death. Once it's sprayed, pests pick up the residual ingredient by contact, making it useful as a repellent insecticide for targeting social insects such as ants and termites and offering long term control.

Though Bifen doesn't provide an immediate knockdown, it prevents social insects from creating pheromone trails and works as a barrier against target pests. If you're targeting only termites, try a product like Bifen XTS. This insecticide not only eliminates many social insects but also more than 75 different outdoor and indoor pests. Because it's less toxic to mammals than similar insecticides, you can use Bifen in pet areas as long as you follow the instructions.

Bifen IT Insecticide for Agricultural Use

The agricultural community uses Bifen Insecticide because of its nontoxic effect on plants. In fact, Bifen works as an effective curative and preventative option for battling many different pest species on various plants, flowers and edible crops. Some of the plants and crops that Bifen works to protect include:

  • Alfalfa
  • Cereal grains
  • Decorative flowers and plants
  • Hay
  • Various fruits and vegetables
Because it doesn't harm the plant, farmers use it to prevent pest infestations before they occur. It also eliminates current pest infestations when it's sprayed evenly throughout the area.

Bifen IT Insecticide Targets Many Pest Insects

Ants in the backyard and mites in the greenhouse don't stand a chance against this insecticide. It's a highly recommended product and controls over 75 pest species in residential, commercial, recreational and agricultural areas. Some of the most common target pests include:

  • Ants
  • Fleas
  • Ticks
  • Mole crickets
  • Roaches
  • Mites
  • Bees and wasps
  • Crickets and grasshoppers
  • Mealybugs
  • Spiders and ticks

Bifen Insecticide works well to control carpenter ants and other common ant species as a crack and crevice treatment, but it also provides effective control of Raspberry crazy ants. These invasive ants normally have two queens and are attracted to electrical currents in air conditioning units and appliances. Because IT works quickly in Raspberry crazy ants, they don't have a chance to create pheromone trails and attract other ants to electrical equipment. Therefore, they can't nest in an AC unit and cause a damaging short circuit.

When and Where to Use Bifen Insecticide

Use IT Insecticide at anytime to prevent and eradicate pest infestations both indoors and outside. It works as a turf and ornamental application and also treats pests in restaurants and other food-handling areas. Spray Bifen Insecticide on greenhouse plants to deter spider mite and aphid infestations, and use it around residential areas to prevent spiders and wasps from building nests near entryways.

Because Bifen Insecticide is a clear substance, it doesn't leave behind stains or white, sticky residue on surfaces. In addition, it lasts for up to six months in outdoor areas, making it an effective prevention method for combating stink bugs, subterranean termites and other target pests from summer to winter. You can also use Bifen IT Insecticide in the following areas:

  • Athletic fields
  • Gardens
  • Parks
  • Hotels
  • Nursing homes
  • Schools
  • Shopping malls
  • Warehouses

How to Use Bifen Insecticide

Apply Bifen Insecticide to target areas with a one gallon sprayer. Use one ounce of Bifen insecticide for every one gallon of water. Spray it evenly over locations where pests invade homes, such as windows, water fixtures and baseboards. You can also spray it around plantscapes, along the perimeter of businesses and throughout recreational areas. Spray it along the walls in hotels and restaurants where roaches and other invasive insects travel, and lightly coat plants in greenhouses to prevent whitefly infestations. Do not apply Bifen to an area more than once per week as insects have shown an ability to adapt to its presence with repeated applications.
